Recommended Steamboat Springs Event Weekend Adventures

  • 4th of July Weekend Family Adventure
Kick off Independence Day with a hearty all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast at the Community Center before securing a spot on Lincoln Avenue to watch the Steamboat SpringsFourth of July Parade. Continue celebrating at the Pioneer Day Block Party at the Tread of Pioneers Museum, featuring a Strings in the Mountains free concert. If the kids are looking for a little more adrenalin, cross over the Yampa River and ride a chairlift up Howelsen Hill to the Alpine Slide. Jump on a cart and zoom down a track that winds through the pine trees (tickets from $7/ride). Still got energy to burn? Cross back over to Lincoln Avenue to the Old Town Hot Springs and Water Slide ($5 for 5 rides; $12 unlimited).  Hungry? Try the burgers at Old Town Pub (starting at $6.50). Then, head to the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo at Romick Arena (adults $13, kids $7 and children under 6 are free). After the Rodeo, the Fourthof July Fireworks display will light up downtown Steamboat Springs. The best viewing spots are on the grass by the river. Turn your heads to the sky and “ooh and aah” with your friends and family!
  • Steamboat Springs Balloon Rodeo Weekend Adventure (July 12-13, 2008)
Wake early for this adventure! At 7am, ride to the Balloon Rodeo launch field at Bald Eagle Lake (free to public) to watch over 40 hot air balloons take to the sky and float along the Yampa Valley. Afterwards, ride the Yampa River Core Trail to Freshies for breakfast. Now that you are well fed, continue down the trail to Art-In-The-Park (free to public). Steamboat’s most popular happy hour at Mahogany Ridge starts at 4pm and features ½ price drinks and $1 appetizers. Finally, spend the evening at Steamboat’s Pro Rodeo (adults $13, kids $7 and children under 6 are free). Yee Haw!

Recommended Outdoor/Active Weekends

  • Mountain Biking Adventure (Beginner/Intermediate): From your ResortQuest lodging, ride down the Yampa River Core Trail to Howelsen Hill (free to public). Wind your way up The Loops to The Quarry where you are rewarded with one of the best views of downtown Steamboat, the Steamboat Ski Resort and the Yampa Valley. Get your adrenalin going on The Forest Traverse, MGM, Eye-To-Eye and down Molly’s back into downtown Steamboat. Starving? Cross the river to Lincoln Ave and look for Azteca Taqueria on 9th Street. Try their fish burrito for $6.75 (and that is one of the pricier items!). For the afternoon, rent some tubes ($12-15 per person) and tube the Yampa River. End your day on the deck of the Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant, overlooking downtown Steamboat Springs. Don’t forget, there’s a two margarita limit!
