Airboarding in Steamboat Springs, CO

airboarding pictures

Thrills, speed and a twist on the traditional. Airboarding is an exciting sport that redefines the typical sled and Steamboat Springs is the perfect place to try it.

Airboarding is a great combination of the thrill of a sledding with the ability to carve turns. The sleds are a combination of a boogie board and a blow-up tube with special runners that allow you to turn by shifting your weight and using your feet. Airboarding requires no previous experience and is super easy to pick up. The sleds are easy to turn, jumping is super fun, and you have a cushy landing on your sled!

History of the Airboard

In 1990, A Swiss engineer, Joe Steiner, created the airboard after he had suffered a knee injury. He wanted a way to stay active and still be able to carve his way down a slope like he did with his snowboard. So he created this blow-up "sled" that was equipped with runners and handles. It quickly turned into a popular winter sport.

Please note that Steamboat Ski Resort does not allow airboards on the mountain and booking a trip is the best way to experience this sport
