Snowshoeing Tours in Steamboat Springs

Snowshoeing is a fun way to get out in the snow during winter in Steamboat! Whether you would just like to take yourself or go on a guided hike or even have your hike end in dinner, Steamboat has it all.
Yampatika is a local non-profit who's goal is to inspire environmental stewardship through education. Their tours can be created custom for you or you can join one of the weekly snowshoe tours!
The snowshoe hikes fill up quickly. Registration required. For details with Yampatika, please call 970-871-9151.
Join a Yampatika Naturalist for an easy snowshoe on the historic Legacy Ranch. Originally homesteaded by a woman and currently occupied by Yampatika, this Ranch has tales to tell about Ute Indians, Pioneers and our stunning natural environment. Sponsored by the State Historical Fund.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of Fish Creek Canyon! This 4 mile round-trip snowshoe is moderately strenuous, and will follow the rim of Fish Creek canyon to a spectacular view down valley. This is a family event for ages 12 and up. Sponsored by the U. S. Forest Service.

- Location: Meet at the upper parking lot of Fish Creek Falls
- Cost: Free, (but they love donations!)
- The History of Homesteading at Yampatika's Environmental Learning Center. Join a Yampatika Naturalist and learn about the history of homesteading through the eyes of Elizabeth Hutchinson, who was the original homesteader of the Legacy Ranch. Sponsored by the State Historical Fund.

Ride the lift to the top of the Howelsen Ski Area (the other ski area in Steamboat) and explore the beauty and history of Emerald Mountain and Howelsen Hill. The views are spectacular and our "first" ski area provides fascinating stories. This is a family event for ages 12 and up. Sponsored by the City of Steamboat Springs.

- Location: Meet at Howelsen Hill Lodge at the base of the Howelsen Ski Area
- Cost: Free, (but we love donations!) Attendees must pay $5 for a lift ticket.
Snowshoe by the light of the full moon and explore the beauty and history of Emerald Mountain and Howelsen Hill. This is a family event for ages 12 and up.
- Dates: Tuesday, December 21: 5:00 – 7:00pm, Friday, February 18: 6:00 – 8:00pm, Saturday, March 19: 6:30 – 8:30pm
- Location: Meet at the Blackmere Trailhead on Emerald Mountain

Imagine a fun, informative and invigorating snowshoe with gorgeous views high up on beautiful Mt. Werner guided by a Steamboat Ambassador. Upon completing the showshoe tour you will enjoy a gourmet lunch with a refreshing glass of wine.
- Dates: Monday Tour: Departs at 9:45am and snowshoes 2 miles across Duster Trail with lunch at Ragnar's. Tuesday - Sunday Tour: Departs at 10am and snowshoes around the Vista Nature Trail about 1 mile with lunch at Hazie's.
- Location:The Guided Gourmet Snowshoe Tour meets at the Information Center located directly across from the Main Ticket Office and Gondola building at the base of the ski area.
The Steamboat Ambassadors conduct a free (with a lift ticket) guided snowshoe tour. The tours offer breathtaking views of the Yampa Valley and the Flat Top Mountains.
- Location: Tours depart from the Information Center at the base of the Gondola daily at 1:00pm. Snowshoe rentals available and Foot Pass required for the gondola ride. Stop by the Information Center at the base of the mountain to sign up and rent your snowshoes, or call 970-871-5444. Footpass tickets can be purchased at the ski ticket window $10.00 for an adult and $4.00 for a child. This ticket is an all-day ticket to the top of the gondola.
The Ski Touring Center located off Steamboat Boulevard has miles of pristine cross country skiing tracks along with 10k of forested snowshoe trails! You can rent snowshoes right at the Nordic shop for adults and children! After your snowshoe through the woods stop at their Picnic Basket Deli to enjoy delicious homemade soups, breads, hot drinks and treats! See more info on the Touring Center.
