Steamboat Springs Rio Stampede - Saturday, August 9th, 2008

|
Steamboat Springs is excited to host the all new Rio Stampede 12 Hour Mountain Bike Race, Saturday, August 9th, 2008. The Steamboat Rio Stampede mountain biking event was previously known as the "RIO 24 Hours of Steamboat."
Instead of the grueling 24-hour mountain biking race, the 2008 event will consist of a 6 and 12-hour endurance race. Brad Cusenbury, the Rio Stampede event organizer said, "
We want more people to be able to enjoy this epic course and venue and hope this new format will encourage greater participation." The event will again be held at the Steamboat Ski Resort. |

About the Rio Stampede 12-Hour Mountain Bike Race (formerly 24-Hours of Steamboat)
Mount Everest, the world's tallest mountain, rises 29,035 feet into the sky. In years past, in slightly more than 24 hours -- mountain bikers climb roughly 36,000 vertical feet on the Steamboat Ski Area’s Mount Werner. Most 24-hour mountain bike rides feature far less climbing than the nearly 2,400 feet the riders conquer in every lap of this race.
Riders ascend Mt Werner, starting from the base of the gondola, past the Torian Plum condominiums, up Zig Zag to the top of the gondola and descending to the Start/Finish line via the Valley View trail. The singletrack climbs Mt Werner through aspens and overlooks the beautiful Yampa Valley and Steamboat Springs.
