There is so much to experience during the summertime in this charming Western mountain town, from hiking, golfing, mountain biking... to just relaxing by the ResortQuest pools!

The weekend is packed with river events for spectators and participants. The Yampa River Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday and includes a freestyle rodeo and a tube rodeo (that's right, tricks in a tube) at Charlie's Hole in downtown Steamboat Springs, a Slalom at Rich Weiss Park, the (don't miss!!) Crazy River Dog competition and a downriver raft race with parties Saturday and Sunday night. Registration is Friday evening, May 23 at Sunpies Bistro. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Yampa, an organization dedicated to protecting the Yampa River.

This Memorial Day Steamboat Springs, Colo., is the place to be for the fourth annual Paddling Life Pro Invitational. Watch the best men and women kayakers in the world compete in a one-day, two-event competition for cash and prizes and year-long bragging rights.
- 11am Creek Race- Middle Fish Creek : One mile of seat-of-the-pants, class V white water.
- 2 pm Freestyle- Charlie's Hole, Yampa River:
Arguably the best man-made feature in the state for throwing the biggest tricks.
- 6 p.m. Paddling Life’s – Après Paddle Party: New Belgium Brewery beer, music, food & more

Steamboat has whitewater for everyone, from Class I up to Class V! Pro kayakers will take to the local rivers and creeks on Memorial Day for the Paddling Life Pro Invitational - this is a great, free spectating event! If you're not yet a pro or have never been kayaking before, several local outfitters provide lessons and rental equipment to get you started!

Kayak the Yampa River through Downtown Steamboat
Looking for whitewater? Steamboat has it! The Steamboat Springs Whitewater Park is a Class II section of the Yampa River, over 2 miles long through downtown Steamboat. The park begins with a slalom course followed by several excellent rapids that provide great surfing opportunities. This time of year, the Yampa has ideal river boarding levels!
