FEBRUARY 2008

02/06 - 95th Annual Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival
*The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, one of the largest and oldest winter sports clubs in the U.S., hosts the 95th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival, the oldest continuing Winter Carnival west of the Mississippi. For several days, the entire town is given over to racing, ski jumping, chariot racing, a parade featuring Steamboat’s skiing high school band (the only one in the United States), the famous ski jöring events down Lincoln Avenue, and the spectacular night show featuring the legendary Lighted Man & fireworks display. Winter Carnival buttons can be purchased for $7 to participate in or attend Carnival events - all proceeds benefit the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club..
*Winter Carnival Opening Ceremonies - 5:30pm, Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill


02/07 - 95th Annual Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival
*Cross Country Obstacle Race for Ages 5-12 - 4:30pm, Howelsen Hill (Pre-registration is NOT required)
*20, 30 & 50 Meter Ski Jumping - This is an opportunity for those ages 11+ to take a shot at ski jumping on Howelsen's famous jumps - 7-8pm, Howelsen Hill (Register the night of the event starting at 5:45pm)
*Snowboarding Jam Session - Prizes provided by PowderTools - 7-8pm, Howelsen Hill (Pre-registration is NOT required)


02/08 - 95th Annual Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival
*Alpine Ski Flying Training - 9am-12pm, Howelsen Hill
*Soda Pop Slalom - Open to any skier or snowboarder through the 5th grade who is not an age-class racer with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club - 10am, Mt. Werner Headwall Run (Pre-registration required by February 6th at 6pm)
*Bumps, Jumps & K18 Ski Jumping - 1:30pm, Howelsen Hill (Pre-registration required by February 7th at 12pm)
*Amateur Alpine Ski Flying Training - Training for the evening event - 3-6pm, Howelsen Hill
*Tubing Party - Come experience Howelsen Hill's new tubing hill (tubes are provided) - 4:30-7:30pm, Howelsen Hill
*Amateur Alpine Ski Flying Night Event - This is a must-see Gelandesprung (German for terrain jump) Ski Jumping event with amateur level participants taking flight off of the K68 hill in Alpine skis and boots, rather than the usual ski jumping equipment - 6:30-7:30pm, Howelsen Hill
*Dual Slalom Bicycle Race - Exciting on-snow mountain bike event down the face of Howelsen Hill (the event includes practice, qualifying and final competition rounds) - 6-7:30pm, Howelsen Hill (Register the night of the event at 5:30pm)
*Red Bull Sledstyle Demo - Fresh from Winter X 12 and Air & Style Munich, medalist Heath Frisby, Joe Parsons, and a crew will backflip their snowmobiles over giant kickers - come check out the Red Bull Snowcat as it builds the course. An autograph session will immediately follow the demonstration! 7:30pm, Steamboat Rodeo Grounds


02/09 - 95th Annual Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival
*Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast - The perfect way to fuel up for all of the day's activities! 8-11am, Holy Name Catholic Church (a nominal admission is charged)
*100-Meter Nordic Dash - The Steamboat Springs Nordic Council is looking for the fastest skate skiers in Steamboat! Male and female divisions, as well as 13 and over & 12 and under age categories - 8am, Lincoln Avenue Downtown Steamboat Springs
*Street Events - A wildly popular & entertaining show featuring children on skis/snowboards being pulled behind horses through the snow covered streets of downtown. Races include street slalom, skijoring, ring and spear, donkey jump and the famous adult shovel race. The horse events are for children ages 6-14, while there are non-horse events for infants to 14 year olds. 9am-12pm, Lincoln Avenue Downtown Steamboat Springs
*Telemark Challenge - All ages welcome! 9:30am, Howelsen Hill (Registration starts at 9am)
*Pro Alpine Ski Flying Training - Training for Sunday's event - 9am-12pm, Howelsen Hill
*Snowboot Softball - Play this summer sport on a snow-covered field! Open to all those ages 16+ - 11am, Klumker Field, Howelsen Hill
*Red Bull Sledstyle Demo - Fresh from Winter X 12 and Air & Style Munich, medalist Heath Frisby, Joe Parsons, and a crew will backflip their snowmobiles over giant kickers - come check out the Red Bull Snowcat as it builds the course. An autograph session will immediately follow the demonstration! 7:30pm, Steamboat Rodeo Grounds
*International Muzzle Loading Biathlon - Participants clad in fur trapper, frontier vintage attire combine marksmanship, using early Americana black powder firearms, with cross-country skiing on primitive equipment - 12-2pm, Howelsen Hill
*Pro Alpine Ski Flying Qualifying - Qualify for Sunday's event - 1pm, Howelsen Hill
*Night Extravaganza - A must-see evening of entertainment at Howelsen Hill, featuring a winter sports exhibition, the Lighted Man, glowstick/torchlight parades, fiery hoop jumpers, an elaborate fireworks display, and much more! 6:30pm, Howelsen Hill


02/10 - 95th Annual Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival
*Street Events - 9-11am, Lincoln Avenue Downtown Steamboat Springs
*Diamond Hitch Parade - The diamond hitch consists of at least 4 skiers, and they hold onto points of a rope tied in the shape of one or more diamonds. Animals, people or vehicles may pull the skiers down the snow-filled streets - Anyone is welcome to enter the parade (Pre-registration is required) - 11:30am, Lincoln Avenue Downtown Steamboat Springs
*Pro Alpine Ski Flying Finals - Watch as world records get broken! 1:00pm, Howelsen Hill
*Parent-Child Downhill - Adults and kids ski together through Howelsen Hill's terrain - each child is given a participant ribbon, and is provided the opportunity to have a professional photograph taken on the podium (Pre-registration is not required) - 1-2pm, Howelsen Hill


02/14 - Valentine's Day Torchlight Parade and Fireworks
*The Steamboat Ski & Snowboard School treats tourists and locals to spectacular on-snow parades down the mountain lit only by torches. In conjunction with the torchlight parades, a fireworks display will illuminate the sky providing a perfect ending to the evening.


02/16 - Bud Light" Rocks the Boat" Free Concert Series - Devon Allman's Honeytribe - 3:30pm
*The Steamboat Ski Area will again be rockin’ this season as the Bud Light Rocks the ‘Boat Free Music Series returns for the sixth season offering a great mixture of various musical genre. Bands play for two uninterrupted hours right at the base of the ski area in Gondola Square beginning at 3:30pm, where non-skiing/riding music enthusiasts and all ages are able to enjoy the après-scene.

 

MARCH 2008

03/01 - 17th Annual Steamboat Pentathlon
*Racers will compete in 5 different stages: Alpine Skiing, Snowshoeing, Cross Country Skiing, Mountain Biking and Running. Pre-registration required by February 27, 2008.

03/01 - Bud Light "Rocks the Boat" Free Concert Series - Cowboy Mouth - 3:30pm
*The Steamboat Ski Area will again be rockin’ this season as the Bud Light Rocks the ‘Boat Free Music Series returns for the sixth season offering a great mixture of various musical genre. Bands play for two uninterrupted hours right at the base of the ski area in Gondola Square beginning at 3:30pm, where non-skiing/riding music enthusiasts and all ages are able to enjoy the après-scene.


03/13-03/16 - NASTAR National Championships

03/13 - Bud Light "Rocks the Boat" Free Concert Series - Rusted Root - 7pm
*The Steamboat Ski Area will again be rockin’ this season as the Bud Light Rocks the ‘Boat Free Music Series returns for the sixth season offering a great mixture of various musical genre. Bands play for two uninterrupted hours right at the base of the ski area in Gondola Square beginning at 7:00pm, where non-skiing/riding music enthusiasts and all ages are able to enjoy the après-scene.


03/17 - St. Patrick's Day Torchlight Parade and Fireworks
*The Steamboat Ski & Snowboard School treats tourists and locals to spectacular on-snow parades down the mountain lit only by torches. In conjunction with the torchlight parades, a fireworks display will illuminate the sky providing a perfect ending to the evening.


03/20 - Cow Town Ranch Tours - 1:00-4:30pm
*Visit local working ranches and tour our cultural countryside with local historians. Learn about the rich ranching heritage of Routt County and its residents, with hands-on experiences. Each tour will be different, determined by the location and your tour guides, and may include stops at cattle, sheep, horse, bison and elk ranches throughout the County. Transportation will be provided by Alpine Taxi. $50 for adults, $10 for kids 7-12, free for kids 0-6 - fee includes transportation, guides, information materials and Routt-Beer floats. Advance registration is required - please call Steamboat Central Reservations at (800) 922-2722.

APRIL 2008

04/05 - 1st Annual "Springalicious Festival" featuring the 28th Annual Cardboard Classic & Free Concerts
*10am - The Cardboard Classic, Steamboat's traditional rite of spring celebrating its 28th year, features homemade crafts constructed only from cardboard, glue, string, water based paint, duct tape and masking tape racing down the face of Headwall to a hysterical finish. The uniqueness and creativity of the race make it an event looked forward to every year.
*3pm - Bud Light "Rocks the Boat" Free Concert Series presents American Relay in Gondola Square


04/06 - Closing Day for Steamboat Ski Resort/1st Annual "Springalicious Festival"

*2pm - Bud Light "Rocks the Boat" Free Concert Series presents The Radiators in Gondola Square
*3pm - 1st Annual Pond Skim on Lil' Rodeo
